Sudan army's gains in capital of Khartoum 'symbolic', researcher says

The Sudanese army’s recent advances in the capital of Khartoum are mainly “symbolic”, said Marc Lavergne, head researcher at France’s national center for Scientific research. The turn of events may “symbolize a return to square one, which is the dictatorship of Omar al-Bashir”, Lavergne said, adding that it now remains to be seen whether the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces would return to their base in Dafur to “continue the war”.
