A local fitness entrepreneur has given a big boost to youth mentorship programs focusing on healthy living and physical activity.

On Friday morning, Jaclyn Cordeiro presented a cheque for $40,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor-Essex.

Collected through fundraising, the money will support the organization’s Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds program, which sees girls ages 12-14 mentored on physical activity, balanced eating, and self-esteem.

Also benefiting from Cordeiro’s efforts is the Game On! Eat Smart, Play Smart program, where boys ages 11 to 14 are mentored on healthy lifestyle practices, including physical activity, healthy eating, communication, and emotional health.

“Each time we pair a child with a mentor, we start something incredible — a life-changing relationship built on friendship, trust and empowerment,” the organization said.

Cordeiro is the founder of JACFIT, a six-week workout program she developed during COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. She is a fitness model, writer, lifestyle coach and registered nurse, and she competes in fitness competitions, the organization said.

In 2024, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor-Essex supported more than 300 children through Go Girls Game On.
